History of Munster
The first persons to live in the area known as Munster today were Potawatomi Indians. However, in the late 17th century, the territory was claimed by French explorers. The British took over the area in about 1760, but they only maintained control of the land for around twenty years.
At this time, a man by the name of George Clark, along with his troops, overran the British and claimed the area for the United States. After the Indians were relocated to Oklahoma in 1828, the new town of Munster began to grow at a rapid pace. The town was named Munster after the local grocer who was known as Jacob Munster.
